Making Money with Your Blog!

First I would like to tell you that it is not hard to do. You do not have to have a college degree nor do you need any knowledge of programming. The only thing you will have to do to start making money online by making a website is have an open mind and be willing to learn.

I began my first website about one year ago. I had no knowledge of html, marketing, advertising or the tools needed to begin. What I did have was an Internet connection providing me with a wealth of information. I began my journey by finding out how to actually get a domain. I learned that you must find a host first. Think of an Internet host as a company that publishes your site to the net. A few good hosts are 1and1 and hostgator. Go to the host you decide and it is pretty self-explanatory. The host will walk you through the steps.

Once I had my domain registered I had to find out how to make the website so that I could start to make money online. I soon learned that the easiest and most effective way to make a website is to use a program like dream weaver or front page. I decided to use dream weaver. I went to the site and purchased the program. It took me a few days to figure out the basics but with the help of search engines I found some great articles and tutorials on how to do it.

I had my website and I began to build content. Now it was time to figure out how to make money online with my website. I went to google and registered a google ad sense account through the advertising link on their front page. I placed the google ads on my site and followed these basic rules religiously for about 6 months:

Content - The more content the better. When the major search engines send out their robots they love to see fresh content. I updated my website very frequently. I wrote articles and provided good information then I post the content on the site. When the robots came back they noticed there was fresh new content and that boosted my sites rankings toward the top. This was a great contributor to my website making money online.

Links - When the search engine robots crawl the web they also notice links. The more links that they find pointing to your site, the better. I began contacting other Webmaster with sites similar to mine. I sent them messages requesting a link exchange. Many of these webmasters were happy to do a link exchange with me. I placed their link in my links page and they place mine in their links page. The search engines started finding all kinds of links pointing to my site combined with the fresh content and my site climbed even higher in the search rankings. Now I was really starting to make money online.

Articles - I wrote an article related to my site every three days. I took this new article and posted it on my site. I then posted the article to as many article directories as possible. The articles in the directories provided a one-way link to my site but most importantly they were made available to other webmasters to post on their site. When another Webmaster posted my article on their site they had to place a link to my site along with it. Articles provide links to your site and content so it is a winning situation. Articles are, in my opinion, the number one way to make money online after you make a website.

I followed these basics principles and still do today. In the recent month I have quite my day job. I am now living very comfortable doing something I had no idea how to do one year ago. Making money online is not as hard as you think. Following these basic guidelines and you can make a website and start your very own home business today.

One of my favorite ways to drive traffic to my web site is through article marketing. What is article marketing? Article marketing is the process of writing articles about topics related to your web site niche ideas, adding links to your web site within the articles, and submitting them to the various online article directories for distribution online. One of the really nice things about article marketing traffic is that the leads generated are usually very high quality; another nice thing about article marketing is that there is generally no cost to submitting the articles to the article directories, so for all practical purposes, except for your time, article marketing is free to use to generate traffic.

So how do you do article marketing? Here is a step by step guide to article marketing:

1) Determine what types of ideas and topics are good for your web site? An easy way to do this is to write a list of ten things that people visiting your web site might be interested in. Once you have this list, write down 10 questions someone might have in reference to each of the first 10 things someone might be interested in. This will give you a total of 100 questions or ideas about which you can write.

2) Write 250-350 word articles about each of your ideas, questions, or topics, using the formula I am teaching in this article.

3) At the end of the article, you must have a call to action. Most article directories will call this your resource box, or your bio. I call it a call to action, because it must be more than a bio and a link. It must be a very specific directive that entices people to click the link and get to your web site. If they do not click the link in the article, your article has been basically unsuccessful, so you must learn to write a call to action.

The easiest way to write a call to action is to first create a free item or product that you can giveaway on your web site. Then tell the reader to click here to collect their giveaway. This will create just about the highest percentage of readers clicking through to your web site from your article and of course that is your primary goal when you are article marketing.

The very first Internet marketing technique I learned when I started online in early 2006 was article marketing. At first, I didn't really believe this would work and I didn't take action.

I bought a cheap ebook called secret affiliate weapon and I read the material. One of the pdfs was about article marketing and was called lazy traffic. You can then create a product that will solve that specific problem for them.

An example of an email that I use:

Right now I need your help. Could you do me a quick 30 second favor?

I need you to reply to this email and answer this very simple question. In an effort to serve you better can you please answer the following question.

"What is most important to you about _________(this is where you will put your niche topic)?"

Opt in email list marketing is one of the pillars of most internet marketing businesses. If you have been involved in internet marketing any time at all, you will have heard that well-known phrase "the money's in the list". It is so often quoted that it has become a cliche, but that does not make it any less true. Of course the principle of list building is nothing new. Businesses and even non-profit organizations have been keeping mailing lists of customers, prospects, or givers since the invention of the postal service. The difference this century with the rise of internet marketing is that our lists are for email marketing rather than mailing. This means it is very easy to send them information - you can email a list of thousands of people every day, if you want to, provided only that you abide by the spam laws. You have no printing or shipping costs. Your only question, in fact, is how to increase your earnings from your marketing list.

For most internet marketers, beginning to build an opt in list means setting up a 'squeeze page' where something (usually an ebook) is given away for free in return for the prospect's email address. This works well, especially if you can find something truly interesting to give away, but how do you bring people to your website to see your free offer? One well-known route is giveaway events, but these seem to be attracting fewer and fewer downloads as they proliferate - you could probably find between five and ten giveaways that are live right now, whenever you are reading this. Well-known internet marketer Michael Cheney built himself a list of over 20,000 people in a very different way and a recently released audio interview will tell you how. It is an interesting method and although many people use it to a small degree, I doubt that many marketers have built such a large list this way, or even thought that it was possible.

It is often said in internet marketing circles that you can expect to make $1 a month per name from your list. That would earn someone like Michael Cheney $20,000 a month - a good income by any standards. Some marketers claim to be making much more per subscriber. I have no idea where the 'average' $1 figure comes from but if you are making much less than that from your list, you are certainly not alone. To maximize the financial returns from your list you must know when to email them, what to send them, and how to get them to buy from you instead of from the other marketers who are sending them the same offers. So whether you are just a beginner in opt in email list marketing, or whether you already have a good-sized list that is not bringing in as much as you would like, you are probably leaving money on the table unless you give yourself a good basic training in building a profitable mailing list.
