Long Live One Way Links
What made Google famous is the decision to measure the value of a website by how valuable links from other websites point to it. There are webmasters (luckily fewer and fewer) that are still sticking to old, useless and even harmful link practices.
So, I will briefly mention some of these as a bad link practices list:
- FFA (free for all) link programs and link farms
- Banner exchange
- Reciprocal Link Exchange
- Automatic link exchange
- Link buying
These two excerpts from a Google Webmaster Central Blog post explain it all:
'... Even though improved algorithms have promoted a transition away from paid or exchanged links towards earned organic links;''... nowadays search engines reward sweat-of-the-brow work on content that bait natural links given by choice.'
Last week Google dropped the page rank (PR) of many blogs and mainstream news sites presumably as a penalty for selling links. Beware of harmful SEO services and consultants because one of their top tricks is buying high PR links (from themselves, of course) to launch the client's site on the top of SERPs.
You may say, but I just bought a link exchange software, was I mislead? Yes. You'd better forget about using it because it will make you more harm than good. Write for what you know, not for what is selling. Write about your practical experiences and give valuable advices to your visitors.
Provide know-how and working solutions and your visitors will keep on flocking to your site and the long coveted one way links to your site will appear like mushrooms after rain not because of some super exchange technique or three-four figure payment, but because of your helpful valuable unique content. And that is exactly what Google wants too - relevance of the search results. Always make it easy for webmasters to link to your pages by choice providing HTML snippet of linking code.
Avoid above mentioned practices, avoid being involved in any kind of automation exchanges, follow Google own webmaster guide and you will be rewarded sooner or later (probably later) with high rankings and valuable link partners.
Recently I found an article revealing another way (it's called PAD technique) to get these precious one way links to my site. Learn how to obtain one way search engine backlinks to your website.
